War in Israel!
At approximately 6:30 a.m. in the early morning hours of October 7, 2023, Israel suffered a surprise attack by the terrorist group Hamas from the Gaza Strip. The Hamas attack upon Israel came one day after the 50th anniversary of the surprise attack that started the devastating Yom Kippur War in 1973.
Israel reported that Hamas fired as many as 2,500 rockets at various locations within the country and followed up with a military ground strike at 7:40 a.m. by breaching the border security fences along the Gaza/Israeli line. The Palestinian terrorists that crossed the border entered some of the small towns and killed and kidnapped many Israeli civilians. Reports say that battles are ongoing at 22 sites within Israel. Some of the captured Israelis were taken back into the Gaza Strip and are said to be imprisoned underground in the tunnels that are used to store the Hamas missiles.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel is at war, and by 10:30 a.m. explosions were heard in the Gaza Strip. By the evening, Israel said that airstrikes had killed over 230 Palestinians and wounded at least 1,790 people. However, this military counter-strike was in response to more than 600+ Israelis having been killed, over 2,000 wounded, and at least 53 kidnapped.
Netanyahu and other Israeli officials have pledged that the Palestinians will suffer greatly as a result of this unprovoked Hamas attack upon Israel. The Prime Minister said, “The Israel Defense Forces will act immediately to destroy Hamas’s capabilities”. He also said, “We will cripple them mercilessly and avenge this black day they have brought upon Israel and its citizens.”
What is happening in Israel is another example of the precarious position of the Jewish people, as they are surrounded by enemies on all sides and stand alone against terrorists and Islamic radicals. This latest Hamas attack upon Israel has been devastating and it comes only a little over two years after the previous war with Hamas in 2021. This attack, however, may result in the complete destruction of the Hamas terrorist group, albeit with wide-ranging consequences for the region and the world.
This is exactly what the Bible predicted would happen to Israel when they returned to their land in the End Times. The Lord is leading Israel and the world to a time of great trouble and judgment, which will cause many people to repent of their sins and believe in the true Savior and Son of God, Jesus Christ.
